Inclusion
Inclusive thinking drives remarkable outcomes.
At Munger, Tolles & Olson, we believe that inclusive workplaces are essential to our firm’s success. Ours is a firm where colleagues respect, support and learn from one another. Ensuring that barriers to individual development and advancement — including barriers based on protected characteristics — are identified and removed has always been, and continues to be, a cornerstone of our firm.
Overview
We believe that inclusive workplaces are essential to our firm’s success.
Ours is a firm where colleagues respect, support and learn from one another. Ensuring that barriers to individual development and advancement — including barriers based on protected characteristics — are identified and removed continues to be a cornerstone of our firm.
The firm was founded in 1962 by a group of attorneys that included a woman. Since then, our managing partners have included two women, a woman of color, an LGBTQ man and an African-American man. We remain a leader in hiring, retaining and promoting the very best talent, and we consistently beat national averages in the number of women and other underrepresented lawyers in our associate and partner ranks. We also work hard to foster an inclusive environment where all of our lawyers can thrive and contribute fully and authentically to all aspects of firm life.

Impact
Leap/MTO Fellows
Munger, Tolles & Olson is a proud partner with Legal Education Access Pipeline (LEAP), a law school pipeline program founded in 2020 to support future law students from adverse and/or traditionally underrepresented backgrounds in gaining admission to law school. Though this promising new partnership, MTO and LEAP have brought the current MTO Fellows Program into the LEAP family to launch an MTO Chapter of the LEAP Fellows Program.

Pipeline Programs
MTO has been a longtime supporter of pipeline programs designed to remove barriers to pursuing legal careers. MTO leads urban debate league programs in Los Angeles and the Bay Area, which bring debate programs to secondary schools to augment the pipeline at an earlier stage. MTO sponsors the Los Angeles Metropolitan Debate League (LAMDL).
Scholarships
The Anjan Choudhury Memorial Scholarship is a scholarship program established in 2022 by California ChangeLawyers in partnership with Anjan Choudhury’s family and Munger, Tolles & Olson, to honor his memory and his commitment to inclusion in the legal profession. Choudhury was a partner at MTO who was a passionate advocate for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds in law. The scholarship aims to support first-year law students pursuing careers in public interest law who demonstrate a commitment to community leadership and a desire to make a positive impact.
