Munger, Tolles & Olson Partner Lisa Demsky Recognized as a 2023 Top White Collar Lawyer by the Daily Journal

The Daily Journal named Munger, Tolles & Olson partner Lisa Demsky to its 2023 Top White Collar Lawyers list for her white collar criminal defense and investigations work.

This is the third consecutive year Ms. Demsky has been named among the top white collar lawyers in California—she was previously recognized with this honor in 2022 and 2021.

The go-to lawyer for companies facing high-stakes crises, Ms. Demsky was recognized for guiding clients through criminal investigations and litigation, internal investigations, crisis management and complex civil lawsuits with hundreds of millions or billions at risk. She is a trusted advisor in bet-the-company matters involving corporate response to a crisis, allegations of fraud and breach of fiduciary duty, whistleblower claims, internal hotline reports, the False Claims Act, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and time-charging fraud. The Daily Journal highlighted Ms. Demsky’s work on behalf of PG&E in relation to the Dixie, Zogg and Kincade fires in Northern California, as well as her successful defense and dismissal of a lawsuit against an investment company in a breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty case.

The Daily Journal asked Ms. Demsky to identify emerging white collar trends and she noted that there is an increased expectation for companies to self-disclose. “In a crisis situation, it is always important for a company to do its own investigation early to understand what happened, and this is something that has helped many clients as they enter discussions with the government,” she said. “With the DOJ’s recent increased focus on incentivizing self-disclosure, we’ve seen companies recognize the value of a thorough early internal investigation, and I expect we’ll continue to see even more focus on early investigations.”
