Munger, Tolles & Olson Partner Rose Ehler Discusses How the Firm’s Innovative Child Care Policies Help Working Parents

Munger, Tolles & Olson partner Rose Ehler was quoted in ABA Journal’s recent article, “Return-to-office push prompts law firms to reconsider child care benefits.”

The COVID-19 pandemic raised particular challenges for lawyers raising children. The ABA Journal’s article details these challenges and additional hurdles that attorneys now face as they return to the office. The article highlights some of the ways in which MTO has acted as a leader amongst its peers in addressing attorneys’ child care needs—including increased backup care offerings and its relationship with Hope Street Friends KinderCare, an early child education center for infants through pre-kindergarten across the street from the firm’s Los Angeles office.

The Hope Street Friends facility—co-founded by MTO—offers discounted tuition for firm employees and extended hours for all parents and provides the highest quality care for children aged 6-weeks to 6-years-old. In addition to subsidized backup care, MTO offers its employees generous parental leave, including 18 weeks of leave within the first year following the birth or adoption of a child, and an additional 6-8 weeks for pregnancy disability. The firm also offers flexible work arrangements for working parents and fertility benefits.

Rose Ehler serves on the Board of Hope Street Friends. When it opened over a decade ago, it was the first law-firm sponsored child care center on the West Coast.
