Munger, Tolles & Olson Reopens On-site Childcare Center Hope Street Friends

Munger, Tolles & Olson’s on-site childcare center Hope Street Friends reopened its doors on May 10, 2021, with KinderCare Learning Centers® as its new operator.

Hope Street Friends is a state-of-the-art childcare and early education center located at 330 South Hope Street in downtown Los Angeles. When it initially opened over a decade ago, Hope Street Friends was the first law-firm sponsored child care center on the West Coast. Today, the facility employs more than 20 teachers and staff, and will provide care for more than 80 children of partners and employees from Munger, Tolles & Olson and Oaktree Capital Management L.P., as well as for families from the surrounding community.

“We are thrilled that Hope Street Friends is reopening in KinderCare’s capable and caring hands,” says Munger, Tolles & Olson partner Rose Leda Ehler. “Onsite childcare is emblematic of our firm’s core values and commitment to our attorneys. We are proud to support working families and believe this support is instrumental in furthering gender equity.”

Munger, Tolles & Olson has instituted a wide range of measures designed to ease the challenges of integrating work and personal commitments. In addition to Hope Street Friends, these measures include subsidized back-up care; a reduced-hours partner track; generous parental leave policies (18 weeks of parental leave within the first year following the birth or adoption of a child, and an additional 6-8 weeks for pregnancy disability); on-ramp/off-ramp mentoring; Milk Stork shipping for nursing mothers who travel for work; and flexible work arrangements.
