Ranked No. 1 on The American Lawyer’s 2025 A-List
Munger, Tolles & Olson is proud to be ranked No. 1 on The American Lawyer’s A-List for the fourth consecutive year and the eleventh time overall.
The A-List ranks America’s top domestic and global law firms. Each year, only 20 law firms qualify for a spot on this list, which ranks “the most well-rounded members of the Am Law 200.” In assigning its rankings, The American Lawyer rigorously evaluates firm performance across five key financial and cultural categories: revenue per lawyer, associate satisfaction, pro bono commitment, inclusion and the percentage of women equity partners.
In 2025, the firm improved its score across all dimensions of the A-List. “It really measures our cultural success, and not just our financial success,” said Co-Managing Partner Hailyn Chen. “[I]t would be one thing to just achieve financial success, but to do it while maintaining high satisfaction of our associates, maintaining our commitment to pro bono work—it’s something we’re really proud of.”
Hailyn also said that the firm continues to “lean hard into our commitment to providing the best client service, to give our associates early responsibility, make sure we have top talent, from top to bottom throughout the firm. And clients keep coming back to us to help solve their toughest problems.”
The Am Law article noted that MTO made news for its role in litigating against the Executive Orders targeting law firms. During a time of “tumult” in the legal industry, Co-Managing Partner Malcolm Heinicke adds that “[w]hat our firm did, standing up and making its voice known in the courts, is something that’s a great point of pride.”
MTO has earned the highest average A-List rankings in the listing’s 21-year history and the most number one rankings in the history of this award.
