Munger, Tolles & Olson Recognized as a Law Firm of the Year Finalist in The Recorder’s 2025 California Legal Awards

Munger, Tolles & Olson is honored to be recognized as a Law Firm of the Year finalist for The Recorder’s 2025 California Legal Awards. Ahead of the awards ceremony, MTO was featured in a profile discussing the biggest challenges law firms face today, the opportunities available to law firms in the current climate and what the legal profession needs to do to prepare the next generation of lawyers.

The biggest challenge law firms face today is “navigating these uncertain times while defending the rule of law and staying true to our firm’s core values.” MTO is proud to have filed amicus briefs in support of lawsuits challenging the executive orders issued by the Trump administration. Lawyers must be able to represent clients without suffering governmental repercussions merely for doing so.

Conversely, the current climate offers law firms the opportunity to “reaffirm the profession’s role as a guardian of democracy and the rule of law. At MTO, we view this as an important moment to stand up against government overreach—particularly when lawyers are targeted for representing disfavored clients.” And by leading the amicus brief efforts, “we demonstrated our unwavering commitment to the independence of the legal profession.”

Attorney development remains a priority for MTO, so that lawyers can grow as practitioners and develop skills in the areas of law that interest them. Mentorship programs, continuing legal education and technology trainings are also crucial.
