Don Verrilli Examines American Democracy and First Amendment Protections in Politics and Prose Panel
Munger, Tolles & Olson Partner Don Verrilli examined recent attacks on the freedoms of universities, law firms and media organizations in a public discussion titled “Defending Freedom,” a “Teach-In” event hosted by Washington, D.C.-based bookstore Politics and Prose on June 24.
The discussion covered the importance of free expression as a pillar of American democracy and its protection under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, as well as suggested ways people can act on their concerns and become more involved in community engagement. Don and the other panelists have played active roles in speaking out against recent administration initiatives, including executive orders, threats of legal action and denial of government contracts and grants.
Politics and Prose’s “Teach-Ins” were inspired by the teach-ins of the 1960s that provided a foundation for education and tools for action during the civil rights and anti-war movements.
