Munger, Tolles & Olson Announces 2021 MTO Fellows, Supporting Diverse Law Students
Munger, Tolles & Olson is pleased to announce a new cohort of 26 students to its MTO Fellows Program, which helps students from diverse backgrounds address the barriers they face in applying for and succeeding in law school. The new cohort, which drew from a record number of applicants, kicked-off its first virtual workshop on March 27.
“We are excited to welcome an exceptional cohort of MTO Fellows who will be the leaders of tomorrow,” said Misty M. Sanford, co-chair of the program. “Our MTO Fellows alumni thrive as the heads of diverse student organizations, members of the law review, Big Law associates, public interest fellowship recipients and law clerks.”
The MTO Fellows Program provides its cohort with a free LSAT preparation course, monthly workshops focused on success in the law school application process and law school itself, and a network of law students, practicing attorneys, judges and others who provide support and mentorship. Each year, Munger, Tolles & Olson selects 25-40 diverse students to join the intensive 10-month program.
“Diversity in the legal profession is a core tenet of our firm,” said Anjan Choudhury, co-chair of the MTO Fellows Program. “The MTO Fellows Committee is one of the largest and most inclusive committees at the firm, with more than 20% of attorneys and several professional staff dedicating countless non-billable hours to the program each year.”
Since 2015, Munger Tolles has prepared more 100 students for law school. The program seeks individuals who show the potential to contribute meaningfully to the diversity of the legal profession, including, but not limited to, candidates who are members of racial or ethnic minority groups; are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender; are persons with disabilities; or are from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds.
