Munger, Tolles & Olson Supports Gender Inclusion and Celebrates Pride Month
In honor of Pride Month, Munger, Tolles & Olson rolled out a series of firm-wide initiatives in support of the LGBTQ community.
On June 26, 2020, the firm announced that all employees would have the option to add their personal pronouns to their email signature blocks and virtual profiles, firm materials such as the website and business cards and nametags at firm events. The firm also debuted the new Gender Inclusion section of its website, which outlines the importance and benefits of normalizing pronoun usage.
To support this new initiative, Munger Tolles welcomed Nick Adams, the Director of Transgender Representation at GLAAD, to lead two discussions for lawyers and professionals. Nick taught attendees about gender identity and expression, the issues facing non-binary and transgender communities and the significance of pronoun usage for fostering an inclusive workplace.
“This new initiative reflects the best of the culture and community at Munger Tolles,” says Hunter Hayes, one of the co-chairs of the LGBTQ Initiative. “We’re proud to be one of the first firms to actively encourage its employees to include pronouns when providing identifying information, which will enhance our culture of inclusion. We are committed to ensuring that colleagues, clients, recruits and guests of all genders feel welcome and respected here.”
Additionally, to celebrate Pride Month, the LGBTQ Initiative will host an annual summer event for attorneys and summer associates. This year’s event, entitled ‘Sangria and Secrets with Drag Queens,’ is a one-of-a-kind virtual experience and digital cocktail class featuring drag queens from Lisbon, Portugal.
