Top IP Lawyers: Kelly Klaus, Carolyn Luedtke
Munger, Tolles & Olson attorneys Kelly M. Klaus and Carolyn Hoecker Luedtke were named among California’s Top Intellectual Property Lawyers by the Daily Journal in a report published on April 17, 2019.
Mr. Klaus was recognized for his copyright work on behalf of “Hollywood’s biggest movie studios and Los Angeles’ most iconic recording companies.” The publication highlighted his representation of six studio members of the Motion Picture Association of America, as well as Amazon and Netflix, in securing a permanent injunction against TickBox preventing the company from streaming the plaintiffs’ content without permission. He was also recognized for representing FX Networks in a right of publicity suit brought by actress Olivia de Havilland over her portrayal in “Feud: Bette vs. Joan,” and several major studios in a suit challenging Redbox’s use of movie download codes that allowed different customers the ability to access the same film.
Ms. Luedtke was recognized for making 2018 “the year of injunctions,” during which she obtained a number of temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions in various trade secret matters on behalf of technology clients. Her victories included securing injunctions in several different cases for Intel against former employees who allegedly stole Intel’s trade secrets when they left the company. The publication also highlighted Ms. Luedtke’s successful defense of Intel in a suit where Intel and its executives were accused of theft of trade secrets obtained during due diligence. The court in that matter dismissed the case against Intel – a decision that was recently affirmed by the California Court of Appeals.
Mr. Klaus focuses his practice on copyright and related litigation. He has represented all of the major motion picture studios and all of the major recorded music companies in some of their highest-profile copyright litigation matters.
Ms. Luedtke’s practice focuses on complex business litigation, with a particular emphasis on intellectual property matters and, in particular, trade secret counseling and litigation.
