Munger, Tolles & Olson has appointed Partner Grant Davis-Denny as the firm’s first Head of Legal AI, formalizing MTO’s next phase of AI adoption. In this new role, Grant will lead the development of the firm’s AI strategy, including the integration of AI into all aspects of the firm’s work, evaluation of evolving tools, creation of practical AI workflows customized for MTO attorneys’ needs, and training of lawyers and professionals.

Grant will work with teams across the firm to promote the effective and safe use of AI in ways that enhance the efficiency and efficacy of client services. He also will track and assess developments in the legal and technology markets and guide the firm’s response, helping clients to capitalize on new opportunities and manage new risks.

“AI is changing both the practice of law and our clients’ needs,” said Co-Managing Partner Martin Estrada. “Grant brings the technical expertise, proven judgment and collaborative leadership needed to help us use these technologies thoughtfully. As Head of Legal AI, he will help ensure that our approach remains focused on excellent client service while upholding the standards of quality, confidentiality and professional responsibility that define our firm.”

The new role builds on Grant’s data privacy, compliance and litigation background as well as the firm’s existing AI capabilities, including its approved tools, generative AI policy and AI Task Force. Grant will continue to maintain his practice and work closely with the task force as he leads the next phase of the firm’s AI strategy.

“Identifying repeatable, high-value, legal-specific AI workflows, designing customized prompts and guidance for those workflows, and training our attorneys on those workflows is my top priority because of the value that I believe those steps will bring to our clients,” said Grant. “I’m excited to work with colleagues across the firm to accelerate the effective and safe use of AI and to turn what we learn into better ways of serving our clients.”
