October 16, 2026
Munger, Tolles & Olson Partner Carolyn Hoecker Luedtke was featured in Law360’s “She Has a Point” series, which highlights notable women in intellectual property litigation nominated by fellow attorneys.
Fenwick & West Partner Jessica Kaempf nominated Carolyn, praising her strategic approach and sound judgment in litigation. “She does a really great job of not overcomplicating issues or overreaching, and I think that’s what makes her really effective,” Jessica told Law360.
In the Q&A, Carolyn discusses her path to IP litigation, the experiences that shaped her trade secrets practice and her work representing OpenAI amid intense competition for AI talent.
“I like to be on cases where the issues matter,” Carolyn said. “Everything that’s happening in the AI space is happening quickly. And there’s a lot at stake to get it right.”
Carolyn also reflects on mentorship at MTO and her experiences as a woman in the courtroom. Recalling an opposing lawyer’s attempt to physically crowd her out and elbow her off the podium during a trial when she was eight-and-a-half months pregnant, she said, “I stood straight and tall and tried to confidently show that he was not going to intimidate me or take up my space…I don’t think it helped the male lawyer who boxed me off the podium be in good stead with the judge.”
Asked what advice she would offer women in IP, Carolyn emphasized preparation. “Own the facts and know the facts. There’s power in knowing all the details and then being able to be the person that everyone goes to when they need to know what the evidence is or what the holes in the evidence are.”
