Munger, Tolles & Olson Partner Bridget Fitzpatrick was quoted in Bloomberg Law’s article, titled “Trump SEC Enforcement Dip Prompts Scrutiny Over Wall Street Cop.” The article examines the decline in Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) enforcement actions in 2026 amid shifting priorities, workforce reductions and a prolonged government shutdown.

As the SEC’s former chief litigation counsel, Bridget explained that the agency’s closure of investigations and dismissal of lawsuits left fewer cases in its enforcement pipeline. She also discussed the shutdown’s impact, noting that a one-month shutdown can create a four-month delay just to reschedule witness testimony.

With a new enforcement director in place, Bridget said the next 12 months will be an “interesting test for this iteration of the SEC.” She noted that the agency should be working primarily on cases opened under Chair Paul Atkins, making the number and types of cases brought next year a key indicator of its enforcement approach.
