Ted Kang is a litigation associate in the Los Angeles office of Munger, Tolles & Olson.

Mr. Kang’s practice focuses on high-stakes commercial litigation, with a particular emphasis on technology litigation involving patents, trade secrets, and antitrust. He has represented leading technology clients in complex and high-stakes multidistrict litigation.

Mr. Kang brings deep technical knowledge in software, computer systems, and artificial intelligence gained from years of experience as an engineer in Silicon Valley. He leverages this experience to untangle his clients’ most difficult problems that lie at the intersection of law and technology. Mr. Kang has experience litigating cases at all stages, from pre-litigation counseling and internal investigations through trial. He has written dispositive briefs, worked with expert witnesses, and managed all aspects of discovery.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Kang clerked for Judge George H. Wu of the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

Mr. Kang earned his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, where he received distinction honors for academic achievement. During this time, Mr. Kang served as an editor of the California Law Review, senior articles editor of the Asian American Law Journal, and web and technology editor of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal.

Before attending law school, Mr. Kang worked as a software engineer, developing complex software systems for large corporations and startups.  Mr. Kang earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Philosophy, as well as a Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

  • Google, in a landmark multidistrict antitrust case challenging its practices in connection with the Google Play Store, which involved claims brought by major app developers, 39 state attorneys general, and a class of consumers.
  • Google, in a patent infringement lawsuit involving cloud and cybersecurity technology in the Western District of Texas. This representation led to a dismissal, with prejudice, of all infringement claims.
  • A semiconductor equipment manufacturer in trade secret litigation involving appropriation of tools and methods used in semiconductor deposition processes.
