Rachel M. Schiff (they/them) is a litigation associate in the San Francisco office of Munger, Tolles & Olson.
Mx. Schiff focuses their practice on complex commercial litigation for clients in financial services, banking and technology. They have represented clients in securities litigation and shareholder class actions, as well as in contract disputes and trustee actions involving claims for breach of contract, fraud, and breach of fiduciary duties.
In January 2024, Mx. Schiff was selected to serve on a four-month secondment for a Fortune 100 financial services client to aid their regulatory and governmental policy teams. They are particularly adept at emotional attunement, a strength that has served their clients in all stages of litigation.
Mx. Schiff has a robust pro bono practice, devoting hundreds of hours to low-income communities in the Bay Area and beyond. They are passionate about criminal defense work and LGBTQ+ civil rights and has been honored to represent clients who often hold multiple marginalized identities and face extraordinary barriers to justice.
Prior to joining MTO, Mx. Schiff served as a law clerk to the Chief Judge Kimberly J. Mueller, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. They earned their J.D. from UC Davis School of Law, where they graduated Order of the Coif. In addition to serving on the UC Davis Law Review as a senior articles editor and acting as a research assistant to three professors, Mx. Schiff was proud to be a member of the Immigration Law Clinic and the founder of the Gender & Name Change Project at King Hall that continues to this day. Prior to law school, Mx. Schiff worked as a death penalty defense investigator for the State of California and as a salesperson in the technology industry.
