Overview
Stuart N. Senator is a partner and general counsel of Munger, Tolles & Olson, advising the firm on legal and ethical issues.
Stuart also continues to advise and defend other leading law firms on legal ethics and professional responsibility issues and claims.
In his free time, Stuart enjoys bicycling – in the mountains near his home and abroad.
Experience
Legal Ethics and Malpractice Matters
In addition to serving as the chief legal officer of Munger, Tolles & Olson, Stuart advises and defends other law firms on legal ethics and professional responsibility issues and claims, including claims for malpractice and breach of fiduciary responsibilities, as well as disqualification motions.
Stuart is a frequent speaker at legal services industry forums on ethics, the rules of professional conduct, regulatory compliance, malpractice, loss prevention, risk mitigation and law firm management. Stuart is on the faculty of the Law Firm General Counsel Workshop that is presented by Legal Management Resources in conjunction with Georgetown University’s Center on Ethics and the Legal Profession.
Business Litigation
Prior to concentrating exclusively on his role as firm general counsel and the practice area of Legal Ethics and Malpractice, Stuart also litigated antitrust cases in trial and appellate courts and advised clients in investigations by the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Justice and state attorneys general.

Stuart represented the United Farm Workers and individual farm workers in litigation that resulted in Cal/OSHA’s increased oversight of agriculture employers’ provision of shade, water and rest breaks to farm workers who pick crops in sweltering heat.
Stuart also represented a class of hearing-impaired motorists in litigation that resulted in Los Angeles’ upgrading its equipment for emergency communications with motorists.
In his role as general counsel of the firm, Stuart also consults regularly with the firm’s litigators regarding other firm pro bono representations.
