

Overview
Grant Davis-Denny is a litigator who advises clients in the areas of data privacy, antitrust and complex commercial litigation.
He has represented clients in connection with a number of California privacy laws, including the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA) and California’s Confidentiality of Medical Information Act (CMIA).
Grant’s practice also includes representing clients in antitrust, patent, copyright, legal malpractice, environmental and energy matters.
Outside the office, Grant enjoys spending time with family and friends, cycling, listening to podcasts and watching documentaries.

Data Security and Privacy
Grant has counseled clients on artificial intelligence and automated decision-making laws, data sales and sharing, targeted advertising, data subject requests, cross-border data transfer issues and the creation and management of privacy programs. This work includes:
- Drafting website privacy policies for companies in a variety of industries.
- Counseling companies on steps needed to comply with recently-enacted and emerging U.S. state privacy and AI laws.
- Representing companies in responding to data breach and ransom demand incidents involving the theft of sensitive customer information.
A confidential client – advising on the treatment of recorded telephone calls under the California Invasion of Privacy Act and the Federal Wiretap Act.
A confidential client – obtaining dismissal of a claim brought under California’s Confidentiality of Medical Information Act relating to the theft of computers containing personal health information.
A confidential client – counseling a multinational apparel retailer on the creation of a privacy program; the preparation of privacy policies, procedures, and contractual provisions; and on ongoing privacy issues, including working with counsel in non-U.S. jurisdictions.
A confidential client – advising a social media company on the requirements of U.S. state privacy laws.
A confidential client – counseling a financial services company on compliance with U.S. state and local AI laws.
Antitrust Counseling and Litigation
Grant has represented clients in antitrust litigation, antitrust counseling matters and antitrust internal investigations. His antitrust experience includes both single-firm conduct and relationships among competitors.
A confidential client in conducting internal investigations into alleged anti-competitive conduct.
A technology company in connection with a three-month jury trial involving multi-billion dollar antitrust claims against the world’s largest computer memory manufacturers.
A confidential client in providing counsel on improvements to its antitrust compliance program.
Complex Commercial Litigation
Grant has extensive experience litigating class actions and other complex commercial cases in trial and appellate courts on behalf of clients in the technology, energy and natural resources, education and legal industries.
A midstream energy company in class actions, business versus business litigation and criminal proceedings related to an oil spill, including two matters that went to trial.
A drilling contractor in class actions related to the Deepwater Horizon disaster.
A leading software manufacturer in obtaining a favorable claim construction ruling and summary judgment of non-infringement against accusations of patent infringement in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
Technology companies in a patent infringement lawsuit related to web-enabled database management systems.
A major law firm in lawsuits brought by clients alleging that they were provided with negligent opinion letters.
An author and film creator in successfully defending at trial copyright claims brought by an alleged co-creator of a film.
A major public university in obtaining a precedent-setting appellate court opinion regarding procedures required in student sexual misconduct hearings.

In recent years, Grant’s pro bono practice has focused on homelessness prevention and improving access to mental health care for underserved populations. He has represented foster children and transition-aged (16- to 21-year-olds) foster youth in class action litigation challenging the lack of adequate placements, housing and behavioral health care in state and local foster care systems.
He also represents individuals with serious mental illnesses in obtaining transitional and permanent housing, mental health care and other needed social supports upon release from jail.
