Munger, Tolles & Olson’s Heather Takahashi, Teresa Reed Dippo and James Salzmann were recognized as 2026 MTO Mentors of the Year. Awarded annually, the MTO Mentorship awards recognize attorneys who exemplify the true spirit of mentorship – offering meaningful guidance and support – and who go above and beyond to make a lasting difference in the professional journeys of their colleagues.

The 2026 honorees were chosen by their colleagues in recognition of the strength and depth of their mentorship efforts over the course of the last year.

Heather earned the 2026 Mentor of the Year award for her exceptional dedication to the growth and wellbeing of associates. She has a unique blend of empathy and remarkable legal expertise, consistently offering constructive feedback, advocating for her colleagues, creating leadership opportunities and celebrating their achievements. Her genuine care for both professional development and personal wellbeing set her apart as a mentor.

Teresa (Tess) received the 2026 Mentor of the Year award for her unwavering support and dedication to her colleagues’ success, whether in law or in life. A nominator said, “as a lawyer, [Tess] helps me step up and lead. As a mom, she continually gives me advice on how to balance work and motherhood.” Her willingness to listen, provide advice and empower others has had a meaningful and positive impact, making her a valued mentor and a trusted friend.

James was selected as a 2026 Mentor of the Year for his outstanding commitment to supporting junior associates. He actively collaborates to ensure the team’s success, and goes out of his way to help colleagues manage their workloads – even taking on additional responsibilities himself.  His valuable guidance on both legal work and the everyday challenges new associates face makes a significant, positive impact on others’ professional development and overall happiness at the firm.

Congratulations, Heather, Tess and James!
