Veteran Corporate Partner Andrew Garelick Joins Munger, Tolles & Olson
Munger, Tolles & Olson is pleased to announce that Andrew Garelick, a nationally recognized corporate attorney with decades of experience, has joined the firm as a partner in its Los Angeles office. In his new role, Andy will lead the expansion of MTO’s corporate practice.
“We are excited to welcome Andy to MTO,” said Chair Brad Brian. “One of our firm’s mottos is ‘only hire the best,’ and Andy certainly meets that standard. He has an extraordinary track record of closing high-stakes transactions, which perfectly complements MTO’s client-focused approach.”
Andy specializes in mergers and acquisitions and regularly counsels clients on complex corporate governance matters, including extensive experience advising boards and special committees of public companies. He is ranked in Chambers USA, and consistently named a top lawyer by IFLR1000, The Best Lawyers in America and Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Dealmakers in America.
Andy’s arrival underscores MTO’s continued focus on solving its clients most complicated legal challenges, including by strengthening its corporate practice with top-tier attorneys capable of executing a broad range of sophisticated transactions.
“I have been impressed with the extraordinary quality of lawyers at MTO, and MTO’s roster of clients is second to none,” said Andy. “I am excited to lead the exceptionally talented corporate group at MTO and to bring my experience and skills to the firm’s dynamic team and its clients.”
Andy has advised numerous clients in high-profile, industry-shaping transactions, including The Walt Disney Company in its acquisitions of Lucasfilm and, from Major League Baseball, a direct to consumer digital platform now known as Disney+; Caesar Entertainment Corporation in its merger with Eldorado Resorts, Inc. and in its sale of Bally’s Atlantic City; Scopely, Inc. (the digital publisher of MONOPOLY GO! and Stumble Guys) in its sale to Savvy Games Group; American Express Global Business Travel in its multi-billion dollar de-SPAC transaction; and Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre as principal shareholders of Beats Electronics and Beats Music in the sale of Beats to Apple. Andy has also represented numerous special committees of public companies, including special committees of the boards of directors of AMC Entertainment, Caesars Acquisition Company, Emcore Corporation and Wesco Financial.
“As the business of law evolves, we remain steadfast in our core values, and it all starts with a simple idea: the most talented attorneys can solve the toughest problems,” said Name Partner Ron Olson. “Andy fits the mold. He is a proven leader and dealmaker, and his broad corporate practice is the perfect fit for our firm and our clients who place a premium on working with attorneys prepared to address multi-dimensional legal challenges. His talent and drive will be a tremendous asset to our firm.”
Andy previously practiced law as a corporate partner in the Los Angeles office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. Earlier in his career, Andy spent several years in executive corporate development positions, including as vice president of mergers and acquisitions at a public company. Andy is a member of the board of directors of the Alliance for Children’s Rights and, until 2023, spent nearly a decade serving as a governor on the board of governors of the Institute for Corporate Counsel, a partnership between the Los Angeles County Bar Association and USC Gould School of Law.
