Munger, Tolles & Olson Partner John Berry Reflects on SEC Activity in 2022

Munger, Tolles & Olson partner John Berry was quoted in an article by BoardIQ titled “SEC Fines Raked in Record $6.4 Billion, But Cases Still Down from 2021.”

Leveraging his former government experience, Mr. Berry reflected on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s activity in the 2022 fiscal year. He discussed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on SEC enforcement actions over the last couple years and the record $6.4 billion in penalties the enforcer collected in 2022, noting the enforcer is willing to “not only set high fines, but pursue them in court.”
