Munger, Tolles & Olson Improves Ranking in The American Lawyer’s Midlevel Associate Satisfaction Survey
Munger, Tolles & Olson was ranked 17th across the nation in The American Lawyer’s annual midlevel associate satisfaction survey released on Aug. 24, 2020. The firm jumped up 13 bands from its 30th place ranking in 2019. The Los Angeles office of Munger, Tolles & Olson placed 7th overall in the city rankings.
More than 4,000 third-, fourth- and fifth-year associates from 73 large law firms completed the survey answering questions about work satisfaction, benefits and compensation, relations between associates and partners, training and guidance, openness about finances and strategies, billable hours policy, the firm’s attitude toward pro bono work and the likeliness of the associate being at the firm in the coming years.
In this year’s survey, The American Lawyer noted two key themes: the importance of maintaining a reasonable work-life balance and the need for transparent communication from senior partners and firm leadership. Though fully anonymized, associates at Munger Tolles did note their appreciation for empathetic and transparent communication from firm leadership during the pandemic, which no doubt contributed to its improved ranking in 2020.
