Don Verrilli Receives 2026 Rex Lee Advocacy Award 

Munger, Tolles & Olson Partner Don Verrilli was honored by the J. Reuben Clark Law Society with the 2026 Rex Lee Advocacy Award at the 23rd Annual Rex E. Lee Luncheon on February 26 in Washington, D.C. The award recognizes excellence in appellate advocacy.  

Don was recognized for his time serving as the U.S. Solicitor General from 2011-2016 and his deep experience as a U.S. Supreme Court advocate, having argued more than 50 cases before the Court. As Solicitor General, Don argued dozens of cases before the Supreme Court, including landmark decisions upholding the Affordable Care Act (National Federation of Independent Businesses v. Sebelius and King v. Burwell) and recognizing marriage equality (Obergefell v. Hodges). 

Since joining MTO, Don has continued to handle numerous significant cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, including victories in Moore v. Harper, which rejected the independent state legislature theory, California v. Texas, which upheld the Affordable Care Act, and Financial Oversight and Management Board v. Aurelius, which upheld the constitutionality of the federal law establishing the Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico.
