Munger, Tolles & Olson ranked No. 1 for average pro bono hours in The American Lawyer’s 2026 Pro Bono Scorecard, with MTO lawyers averaging 186.9 hours of pro bono work — the highest among Am Law 200 firms. MTO also ranked No. 4 overall in the national scorecard.

In an interview with The American Lawyer, MTO Partner and Pro Bono Co-Chair Jake Kreilkamp said the firm’s approach to pro bono work has remained consistent despite growing demand for legal services. “Our view is we just need to stay the course and continue with these sorts of efforts,” he said. Jake also noted that the firm experienced a “big explosion” in pro bono work over the past year, reflecting the increased need for legal representation.

The publication highlighted the firm’s work in a significant immigrants’ rights matter. MTO, together with the ACLU Foundation of Southern California and other legal aid organizations, represents the United Farm Workers and secured a temporary restraining order following Southern California immigration raids that prohibited federal agents from stopping individuals without reasonable suspicion of an immigration violation. Although the Ninth Circuit denied the government’s appeal, the U.S. Supreme Court later stayed the temporary restraining order and the litigation remains ongoing.
