Munger, Tolles & Olson believes that a diverse work force improves our ability to serve the needs of our clients and creates a more dynamic workplace for our attorneys. As part of our ongoing effort to recruit, retain and promote attorneys who contribute to the diversity of our firm and our profession, we are pleased to offer up to six 1L summer associate positions in our Los Angeles and San Francisco offices.
These positions will be offered to exceptional first-year law students who can contribute to the diversity of Munger Tolles and the legal community. In the past, candidates have included law students who are members of racial or ethnic minority groups; are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender; are physically challenged; or are from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds.
Each participant in the 1L Summer Program is required to spend a minimum of seven weeks in our office and may stay a maximum of 10 weeks. The weekly salary for participants is the same as our program for 2L and 3L students.
PUBLIC INTEREST OPPORTUNITY
Upon completion of seven weeks at the firm, in lieu of spending additional time at Munger Tolles, each participant in the 1L Summer Program will have the option of spending up to four weeks performing legal work for a non-profit organization in the Los Angeles or San Francisco area and receiving his or her weekly salary from the firm. Students interested in this option will need to submit a written description of the public interest opportunity before beginning employment at the firm.
We are looking for applicants who possess a record of academic, employment, community and other achievement, indicating the potential for success in law school and in the legal profession. All applicants must be first-year law students in good standing pursuing a Juris Doctor degree at an ABA accredited law school.
We encourage you to submit an application as soon as possible. Although we will accept applications until March 1, 2014, we consider completed applications on a rolling basis and our limited number of positions may be full before that time.

1) Cover letter specifying the applicant’s office preference
3) Official or unofficial transcript (photocopy and/or online version) of first semester law school grades when available
4) Official or unofficial transcript (photocopy and/or online version) of undergraduate grades
5) A personal statement of no more than 500 words describing your interest in the Munger, Tolles & Olson 1L Summer Program and how you would contribute to the diversity of the legal profession
6) Contact information for two references, including at least one who can provide detailed comments on your law school work
