Health & Wellness

Financial Benefits

In addition to competitive base pay, employees share in the success of the firm through incentive compensation programs including annual bonuses, holiday gifts, spot bonuses and more.

MTO supports the long-term financial wellness of our attorneys and business professionals with generous retirement plan contributions.

MTO provides firm-paid short- and long-term disability insurance programs, life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance. Access to a range of voluntary supplemental coverages is also offered at preferential rates for plans including critical illness, long-term care, hospital and accident insurance.

Attorneys and senior management are provided firm-paid personal excess liability coverage, with optional additional voluntary coverage available at preferential group rates.

The firm offers a monthly transportation stipend or paid onsite parking for eligible employees.

Eligible employees choosing to use their own cellphone receive a monthly stipend.

Work/Life Integration

Our employees benefit from various opportunities to take paid time off including holidays, vacation and sick and personal emergency time. The firm also offers a generous leave of absence policy if needed to take care of medical issues or your family, including parental leave for new parents. Attorneys are offered additional mentoring support when transitioning to and from a leave of absence.

Subsidized back-up care is available to help take care of children, elders or pets in the event of a temporary schedule disruption, and for our own employees if the need arises. Back-up care days also convert into tutoring hours for children and adults.

To support its working parents, MTO founded this state-of-the-art childcare facility and early education center near the firm’s offices in downtown Los Angeles.

MTO attorneys and many support professionals are able to work a hybrid schedule between the office and home, as well as manage their own time off around work commitments.

Attorneys who work an agreed reduced-hours schedule can remain on track toward partnership. The firm actively monitors the reduced-hours program to assist attorneys in not exceeding their targeted hours while continuing to build their practice.

Professional Development

MTO is a certified provider of continuing legal education (CLE), offered conveniently throughout the year to our attorneys on current topics and areas that are highly relevant to remaining at the forefront of the legal community. Attorneys are encouraged to further their subject matter expertise and career accomplishments by participating in the development and delivery of CLE for their colleagues, with support from qualified training professionals. 

Associates are assigned an Attorney Development and Inclusion team liaison during their first year at the firm. This resource provides onboarding and integration support and can continue throughout the associate’s MTO career.

MTO covers each mandatory State Bar membership at 100%, and half of additional State Bar dues. The Firm pays for half of each membership in other organizations (e.g., the ABA or the Los Angeles County Bar Association), including voluntary sections. The Firm also provides reimbursement for reasonable continuing education expenses, and attorneys are covered by the Firm’s malpractice insurance policy.

Regular training and development opportunities are offered to attorneys and business professionals as part of their employment at MTO. Business Professionals are encouraged to maintain skills, knowledge and professional certifications relevant to their role and function.
