Kelly Klaus Named to Variety Legal Impact Report

Munger, Tolles & Olson litigator Kelly M. Klaus was recognized in Variety’s 2019 Legal Impact Report published on April 12, 2019. The annual report highlights the top attorneys in the entertainment business.

Mr. Klaus was recognized for his success representing the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (the six member studios of the MPAA, along with Amazon and Netflix) in obtaining a stipulated judgment and permanent injunction against TickBox, which plaintiffs sued for inducing infringement of their movies and television shows. The studios were awarded $25 million in damages and the judgment required that TickBox remove or disable access to software that infringes on copyrighted material from the studios.

The publication also highlighted Mr. Klaus’s work representing Disney, Lucasfilm and Marvel in obtaining a preliminary injunction against Redbox regarding its unauthorized sale of digital codes sold in DVD “Combo Packs,” as well as his representation of FX Networks and producer Pacific 2.1 Entertainment in fighting back right-of-publicity/false claims from actress Olivia de Havilland over her depiction in “Feud.”

Mr. Klaus focuses his practice on copyright and related litigation, including antitrust and class action litigation. He has represented the major motion picture studios, the major recorded music companies and many other entities in some of their highest-profile litigation matters in recent years. In addition to litigating, Mr. Klaus regularly counsels clients on copyright, software licensing and other intellectual property issues.
