Munger, Tolles & Olson’s Kelly M. Klaus was highlighted for the second straight year as a Law360 Media & Entertainment MVP on Dec. 10, 2018.
Law360 describes its roster of MVPs as attorneys “who have distinguished themselves from their peers by securing hard-earned successes in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters and record-breaking deals.” Mr. Klaus was selected from more than 1,000 nominations received by Law360.
Mr. Klaus was recognized for representing FX Networks in winning dismissal in the California Court of Appeal of Olivia de Havilland’s defamation and right-of-publicity suit based on a de Havilland character in the critically acclaimed the docudrama “Feud: Bette and Joan.” His profile also highlighted his success in obtaining a preliminary injunction on behalf of Disney, Lucasfilm and Marvel against Redbox regarding its unauthorized sale of digital codes.
“The issue in litigation oftentimes is not coming up with the most novel argument, but trying to present the soundest arguments in the most compelling way,” Mr. Klaus told Law360.
Mr. Klaus credits the firm with giving him an early opportunity to take on copyright litigation and igniting his interest in media and entertainment. Munger, Tolles & Olson has represented major studios and recording music companies for decades.
Mr. Klaus focuses his practice on copyright and related litigation, including antitrust and class action litigation. He represents major motion picture studios and recorded music companies in some of their highest-profile litigation. In addition to litigating, Mr. Klaus regularly counsels clients on copyright, software licensing and other intellectual property issues.
