For the second consecutive year, Munger, Tolles & Olson was named a California Powerhouse by Law360. As one of eight California firms that “excelled at attracting top talent and the state’s increasing book of business,” the firm was recognized for “solving tough problems for the entertainment and Silicon Valley clients that make California their home.”
In its Aug. 31, 2018 profile, Law360 highlighted Munger, Tolles & Olson’s victory for FX Networks in a right-of-publicity lawsuit brought by Olivia de Havilland, as well as a win for several prominent Hollywood studios in an antitrust case brought by the VidAngel streaming media service. The article noted the firm’s long-standing relationship with entertainment and media companies in California.
“We’ve been representing them as technology has developed, we’ve been called on to represent them in every sort of new emerging issue,” litigator Hailyn J. Chen said.
The publication also profiled the firm’s victory for Airbnb in a leasing dispute and its successful defense of the University of California, Berkeley, in a First Amendment lawsuit.
In addition to highlighting the range of industries Munger, Tolles & Olson serves, Law360 showcased the firm’s distinct low-leverage model and emphasis on recruiting highly talented lawyers as important differentiators.
“We pride ourselves on providing the best legal advice and the best problem solving,” said litigator Malcolm A. Heinicke, “and after decades and decades of adhering to that model, even though it means less leverage, our adherence to that model has led us to a place where we have a fantastic reputation in the legal community.”
