The Recorder named Munger, Tolles & Olson the California Entertainment Litigation Department of the Year on Sept. 14, 2017. The award series recognizes “law firms whose California litigators have delivered outstanding service – and wins – for their clients in the year’s most demanding litigation matters.”
The Recorder selected Munger, Tolles & Olson based on its string of stellar results for the leading companies in the media and entertainment sector. The firm’s success included representing:
- Disney, Lucasfilm, Fox and Warner Bros. in obtaining a preliminary injunction against VidAngel, a service that offers unlicensed streaming of motion pictures and television shows. The Ninth Circuit unanimously affirmed the issuance of the preliminary injunction in August 2017.
- Warner Bros. and TMZ in winning summary judgment on a copyright infringement claim by Jared Leto’s professional loan-out company based on video footage posted on TMZ.
- The co-founders of Beats Electronics in obtaining summary judgment in a lawsuit brought by Monster and its principal alleging fraud and deceit, breach of duty of trust and confidence, breach of fiduciary duty, unfair competition and violations of the California Corporations Code.
The firm’s lawyers continue to build on a legacy of representing the nation’s leading entertainment – including Disney, Warner Bros., Fox, Universal Music and the other major motion picture studios and recorded music companies (as well as their trade associations, the MPAA and RIAA) – in their most challenging and complicated litigation matters.
