Munger, Tolles & Olson Co-Managing Partner Brad D. Brian discussed several aspects of why Munger Tolles is distinct among U.S. law firms in an interview published on Forbes.com on Feb. 7, 2017. In the interview, Mr. Brian explained the firm’s philosophy on growth, accepting work from clients, attorney compensation, career development and more.
As part of the discussion, Mr. Brian touched on the firm’s mission to represent its clients on their most challenging matters, noting that clients turn to Munger Tolles to take leadership roles in “bet-the-company” issues. He also talked about the firm’s core values and how those are reflected in the firm’s egalitarian culture and its strong commitment to pro bono and community service.
Mr. Brian also reflected on the decision to open a third office in Washington, D.C. in fall 2016, 25 years after opening an office in San Francisco. He pointed to the unique opportunity to bring in former U.S. Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli, Jr. and veteran litigator Michael B. DeSanctis.
The firm “isn’t looking to grow just for the sake of growing. We are always open to hiring the best lawyers with our values wherever they might want to practice,” Mr. Brian said.
Mr. Brian is a highly respected national trial lawyer and a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. The 2015-16 “Litigator of the Year” according to The American Lawyer, Mr. Brian has represented numerous Fortune 500 corporations in their most challenging, high-profile lawsuits and government investigations.
