Munger, Tolles & Olson attorneys Ronald L. Olson, Brad D. Brian and Mary Ann Todd were recognized among the Top 100 lawyers in California by the Daily Journal, in a report published Sept. 21, 2016.
The Daily Journal highlighted Mr. Olson’s extensive career representing clients in the entertainment industry starting with a First Amendment lawsuit challenging the federal government to reverse television’s “Family Viewing Hour” policies. He was recognized most recently for his representation of the independent directors of the DreamWorks Animation board in the company’s $3.8 billion acquisition by NBCUniversal. The publication also reported that the new headquarters of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) will be known as the Ron Olson Justice Center in recognition of Mr. Olson’s history of public service.
The publication recognized Mr. Brian for his representation as trial counsel in several significant cases, including his current defense of LG Electronics in multidistrict antitrust litigation involving more than $1 billion in claims and Munger Tolles’ representation of Plains All American Pipeline LP in litigation arising from the May 2015 pipeline breach and oil spill near Refugio State Beach in Santa Barbara County. The Daily Journal cited Mr. Brian’s “extensive experience in oil spill litigation,” pointing to his successful defense of Transocean in massive litigation resulting from the BP oil spill in 2010. Mr. Brian was also recognized for serving as co-chair in a capital campaign to fund construction of LAFLA’s new headquarters.
Ms. Todd was selected in recognition of her longtime representation of Berkshire Hathaway in many “critical growth transactions.” Among the matters noted, the Daily Journal highlighted Ms. Todd’s role advising Berkshire Hathaway in its $37.2 billion acquisition of Precision Castparts Corp. and in one of the largest debt offerings of 2016.
