Munger, Tolles & Olson attorneys Rosemarie T. Ring and Mary Ann Todd were recognized among the Daily Journal’s list of Top Women Lawyers in California published on April 20, 2016.
Ms. Ring was recognized for her work on behalf of clients in high-profile privacy litigation and her pro bono representation of servicewomen challenging the U.S. military’s policy banning women from serving in combat positions. The publication highlighted several victories achieved by Ms. Ring, including obtaining dismissals for Disney and ESPN in lawsuits alleging violations of the Video Privacy Protection Act and securing a settlement for LinkedIn in a putative nationwide class action challenging how social networks can collect and use member information to generate revenue.
The Daily Journal wrote, “As public debate over how personal data should be collected, used and protected continues to intensify, Ring is at the forefront, representing some of nation’s most important technology and entertainment companies in litigation that is driving and shaping class action and privacy law.”
Ms. Todd was recognized for representing clients in industry-altering deals. Among these, she advised longtime client Berkshire Hathaway in the merger of its H.J. Heinz Co. and Kraft Foods Group to form the third-largest food and beverage company in North America and Lazard as financial advisor to Ryland Group Inc. in a proposed merger with Standard Pacific Corp. creating the fourth-largest homebuilder in the U.S.
The Daily Journal highlighted Ms. Todd’s work on another 2015 “mega-deal” – Berkshire Hathaway’s acquisition of Precision Castparts Corp. for $37.2 billion. She was also recognized for advising Berkshire Hathaway in two debt financing public offerings including a 2.75 billion euro note offering and a domestic $9 billion offering.
