Boeing Prevails in Patent Infringement Lawsuit

Munger, Tolles & Olson represented Boeing in winning a decision from the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) on December 21, 2016, invalidating patent claims that retired engineer Seymour Levine had accused Boeing of infringing.

Mr. Levine brought suit against Boeing in Illinois claiming Boeing’s aircraft maintenance technology infringed his patent for a remote flight data recorder system. After the case was transferred to Washington, Boeing filed a petition for inter partes review with the PTAB. The PTAB granted the petition and invalidated all claims asserted in the district court litigation as obvious based on several prior art references.

The Munger Tolles attorneys representing Boeing include Ted Dane, Rohit K. Singla, Peter E. Gratzinger and Adam R. Lawton.
