Ron Olson and David Taylor Receive ACLU Humanitarian Award

Ronald L. Olson and David A. Taylor of Munger, Tolles & Olson received the ACLU Foundation of Southern California’s Humanitarian Award on June 5, 2015 for their work on behalf of homeless veterans.

The organization honored Messrs. Olson and Taylor for their success, as co-counsel with the ACLU, in obtaining a landmark settlement in a suit against the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) alleging that the VA failed to provide necessary housing and treatment for homeless veterans. Announced in January 2015, the settlement will reverse decades of misuse of a 387-acre West Los Angeles parcel deeded in 1888 for the specific purpose of housing disabled U.S. veterans.

Also receiving the Humanitarian Award are attorneys from Arnold & Porter and activist and former Santa Monica City Councilman Bobby Shriver. The ACLU also recognized honorees in a variety of other categories, including criminal justice, disability rights, educational equity, prisoners’ rights, reproductive justice and social responsibility in the media.
