The Yucaipa Companies took a majority stake in Brew Hub LLC of St. Louis, Mo., a startup company that plans to spend more than $100 million to build five new breweries. Munger, Tolles & Olson represented Yucaipa in the transaction, which was announced March 18.
Brew Hub, which was started by a group of beer company executives, plans to offer the facilities to small brewers who want to maintain control of their product while expanding production. The new venture will also offer brewers fee-based services, including distributing and marketing support. Brew Hub plans to break ground by May on a 75,000-barrel brewery in Lakeland, Fla.
Over the next five years, it plans to build at least four other breweries in other parts of the country, including Texas and a mid-Atlantic state. Although the beer market is dominated by giant multinational companies, most of the industry expansion in recent years has been among small craft brewers.
