Mayacamas Vineyards Sold to Charles Banks and Schottenstein Family

Munger, Tolles & Olson represented the shareholders of the legendary Mayacamas Vineyards in their sale of the company to Charles Banks and his co-investors. The deal was announced April 30, 2013.

Mayacamas Vineyards has long been one of the most celebrated Cabernet Sauvignon producers in California. The 1971 Mayacamas Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon captured the imagination of the world when it placed in the Judgment of Paris tasting of 1976. In the 10- and 30-year replays (1986 and 2006) of the historical Paris tastings, the 1971 Mayacamas placed, respectively, 2nd and 3rd, beating out all of the French entries, once again solidifying its position as an outstanding vineyard for singular, exceptional Cabernet.

Charles Banks is a wine venture capitalist and a former owner of Screaming Eagle and Jonata Wines.

Munger Tolles attorneys Maria Seferian and Jennifer Broder represented the selling shareholders of Mayacamas in the transaction.

Ms. Seferian’s practice encompasses a wide variety of corporate transactions and other business matters, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, arts and entertainment transactions and intellectual property.
