Munger, Tolles & Olson advised The Topps Company in its acquisition of GMG Entertainment, the gift card provider for Facebook. The deal was announced July 26, 2011.
Topps plans to leverage the acquisition of GMG to enter into the digital currency market, while bringing manufacturing, design and collectability skills to digital currency cards, according to the press release.
“The new addition will lead Topps into the high-growth retail and digital convergence arena with partners who are in the social media space,” Topps CEO Ryan O’Hara said.
The Topps Company is known as the preeminent creator and brand marketer of sports cards and entertainment products. GMG is a global partner of Facebook in the Digital Currency Card category.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Munger Tolles attorneys Maria Seferian, Stephen D. Rose, Williana H. Chang, Patrick Anderson and Anne Henry Lee represented The Topps Company in the deal. Munger Tolles previously represented The Tornante Company in acquiring Topps and taking the company private. The firm also represents Topps in general corporate and litigation matters.
