The Daily Journal named Munger Tolles & Olson partners Terry Sanchez and Malcolm Heinicke among the Top 75 Labor and Employment Lawyers in California. The annual list, compiled by Daily Journal editors, seeks to highlight the most significant labor and employment disputes of the year, and the lawyers that lead them.
“California has for years led the nation in the development of labor and employment law. Because of that, California has some of the most experienced practitioners in the nation,” the Daily Journal wrote.
Mr. Sanchez, appearing on the list for the second year in a row, was spotlighted for his role in the ongoing Warner Bros. Charlie Sheen lawsuit. Munger Tolles is defending Warner Bros. against a $100 million lawsuit filed by Mr. Sheen after his contract was terminated. The paper also noted Mr. Sanchez’s work defending against allegations of improper “forced patronage” by securities firms and securing the dismissal of such a federal court putative class action against Merrill Lynch Financial Advisors.
Mr. Sanchez told the Daily Journal he credits his success to “the clients who entrust [him] with their most difficult employment problems and the quality of [his] colleagues to whom [he] can turn to help solve those problems.”
The Daily Journal recognized Mr. Heinicke for the third consecutive year, highlighting his work with Merrill Lynch, baseball legend Willie Mays, and most notably Guardsmark LLC.
In the latter, Mr. Heinicke’s successfully navigated an unclear area of meal-and-rest break law to defeat class certification on the lead claims and obtain dismissal of the associated penalty claims.
“You have many meal-and-rest-period laws, and you have many companies that do all they can to comply with the law, yet the law is unclear,” Mr. Heinicke told the Daily Journal. “The Guardsmark ruling is particularly gratifying.”
