Central Legal de la Raza will present Munger, Tolles & Olson with its Community Justice Award on April 20th, 2011 during its 42nd Anniversary Gala.
The honor recognizes Munger Tolles' ongoing pro bono work and commitment to diversity. During the past several years, Munger Tolles' has worked on matters challenging SB 1070, Arizona’s anti-immigration law; served as co-counsel in settling an immigration delay matter with U.S. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services; and worked to defend AB 540, California’s law that exempts undocumented immigrant graduates of California high schools from paying out-of-state tuition for UC and CSU schools. In addition, Munger Tolles has a commitment to diversity that has resulted in steady upward progress for diversity hiring, retention and promotion. Currently, Munger Tolles' diversity figures exceed the national average for a firm our size.
Based in Oakland, Centro Legal is a nonprofit group focusing on legal services and advocacy on behalf of low income individuals, including Spanish speaking immigrants.
