In the July 2007 issue, The American Lawyer magazine released its fifth-annual ranking of the nation’s elite law firms. Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP has once again earned a place near the top with a #3 ranking. This marks the firm’s third appearance on the “A-List,” placing third in 2004 and eighth in 2005.
The “A-List” ranks firms based on a weighted combination of four core professional values: revenue per lawyer, pro bono practice, associate satisfaction and workplace diversity. According to The American Lawyer, the “A-List” “. . . isn’t just a report card on firm statistics. It’s a measure of how well firms balance moneymaking with the priorities of service and collegiality that used to distinguish the legal profession.”
MTO scored higher in associate satisfaction than any other A-List firm - a significant factor to its #3 ranking. Co-Managing partner, Mark Helm, explained to The American Lawyer that MTO is extremely selective during the hiring process. However, once hired, associates are treated as people who the firm hopes will become future partners.
The American Lawyer is “the legal industry’s leading monthly magazine - read by partners at corporate law firms, in-house counsel, government lawyers, and litigators at firms of all sizes.”
