Tamerlin Godley and John Spiegel Receive CLAY Awards

Munger, Tolles & Olson attorneys Tamerlin J. Godley and John W. Spiegel were among those selected for the distinguished California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) awards. The pair were chosen from the list, which appears in the March edition of California Lawyer, for their work in entertainment law.

Ms. Godley and Mr. Spiegel were picked for their roles in the defense of Warner Bros. in its high profile dispute against actor Charlie Sheen. The California Lawyer commended their ability to move the dispute out of the limelight and into arbitration, despite the desires of Sheen and his attorney.

Mr. Spiegel told the California Lawyer that he argued that as an actor who claims to make $2 million for a 22-minute episode, Mr. Sheen’s need for the court’s protection “is frankly absurd.” The judge later ruled in Warner Bros. favor, moving the case to arbitration, finding “that all of Sheen’s complaints ‘clearly and unmistakably [are] required to be referred to an arbitrator,’ ” the California Lawyer reported.

Mr. Spiegel and Ms. Godley are litigation partners in the Los Angeles office of Munger Tolles. Mr. Spiegel’s practice focuses on complex business litigation in the state and federal courts. Ms. Godley excels at handling complex business litigation disputes and specializes in entertainment litigation and advising.
