Project for Attorney Retention Recognizes Munger Tolles for Promoting Women Attorneys

The Project for Attorney Retention (PAR) recently recognized Munger Tolles & Olson among law firms with the greatest proportion of women in the firms’ 2011 partnership classes. Of the Munger Tolles attorneys who were named partner in 2011, 67 percent (2 of 3 lawyers) were women. In 2010, both lawyers promoted to partner were women. During the past five years, from 2007 to present, 50 percent of the lawyers Munger Tolles promoted to partner were women.

These percentages are more significant compared to the general trend among PAR surveyed law firms, which showed a one percentage point drop (from 34 percent in 2010 to 33 percent in 2011) in the proportion of women promoted to partnership.

The Project for Attorney Retention is a non-profit organization that studies the advancement for women lawyers and work-life issues for all lawyers. The 2011 results were based on a survey of 123 U.S.-based law firms. Participants were chosen for the study based on inclusion in previous surveys, firm size and availability of information.
