Vilma Martinez, a litigation partner in the Los Angeles office, will be honored by California Diversity Magazine as on one of California’s most powerful and influential women. Ms. Martinez will be honored in a ceremony to take place in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 14, 2009, during the magazine's California Diversity & Leadership Conference.
Among the criteria considered in the selection process are leadership excellence in the public and/or private sectors, a sustained record of accomplishments and/or contributions to the field of work throughout her career and a commitment to the highest ethical standards and professional excellence.
California Diversity Magazine, a new publication covering diversity-related issues throughout the state, will publish the complete list in its debut issue in February 2009.
Ms. Martinez, a former President and General Counsel of the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) and staff attorney with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, specializes in federal and state court litigation and employment counseling. She has spent the last 25 years advising and defending corporate employers in labor and employment matters.
