BRUCE ABBOTT is a litigation partner in the Los Angeles office of Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP.
Mr. Abbott received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Pomona College in 1988, where he was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Abbott received his law degree from Yale Law School in 1991, where he was a Senior Editor of the Yale Law Journal. After graduating from law school, Mr. Abbott clerked for the Honorable William D. Keller, United States District Judge, Central District of California.
Mr. Abbott first joined the firm in 1992, concentrating in the areas of complex business litigation, government contract fraud and white-collar criminal defense. Mr. Abbott left MTO between 1994 and 1996 to serve as a Special Prosecutor in Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for several major fraud investigations, indictments and criminal prosecutions both in Washington D.C. and other jurisdictions.
Mr. Abbott returned to the firm in 1996, where his practice continues to emphasize complex business litigation (with an emphasis on technology and intellectual property), government contract fraud and white-collar criminal defense. Representative clients include several foreign and domestic high-technology companies, various Fortune 500 companies, several Wall Street securities firms, as well as large and medium-size government contractors.
Although primarily a defense lawyer (and one who has successfully defensed a number of cases), Mr. Abbott also often serves as a plaintiff's lawyer in high-technology and other complex business disputes. Recent trial victories include serving as lead counsel in obtaining a $6 million verdict, including attorney's fees and costs, in a multi-defendant securities action brought on behalf of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation, as well as obtaining several multi-million dollar settlements (including a settlement in the low nine figures) on the eve or in the course of trial.
In addition to his professional practice, Mr. Abbott is a member of the Los Angeles Trial Inn of Court, the American Association of Business Trial Lawyers, the Federal Bar Association and numerous other bar organizations. He also serves on the Board of Directors for a number of local business and charitable organizations.
