Other Key Relationships:
The Applications Engineer works closely with the IT Manager and IT Staff. The Applications Engineer will have regular interaction with members of the Engineering, Applications Development, Support and Training staff as it relates to operations, support and technology improvement. The Applications Engineer can expect to have contact with attorneys and other department managers as well.
The Applications Engineer is responsible for supporting and managing all core desktop applications of the firm; help ensure the firm’s network and applications are operational and efficient for personnel in all offices. Must manage complex technology projects on budget and keep pace with technology advances that further the firm’s goals while maintaining focus on practical constraints.
Responsible for monitoring the performance and stability of core business critical applications.
Responsible for providing engineering-level support to the help desk.
Responsible for developing automated solutions to integrate and improve business systems.
Responsible for large technology project management and special projects.
Responds to daily requests from attorneys, managers and other staff regarding technology.
Assists IT Management team with the development of departmental operating and capital budgets.
Responsible for recommendations regarding technology upgrades and security.
Education and Professional Qualifications:
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Business or Information Systems.
MCSE, MCTS, MCDST, MCITP, MCSA, ITIL, PMP or other technical certifications preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Position requires strong interpersonal skills; ability to develop effective working relationships with all levels of personnel; strong client-service orientation and focus; excellent communications skills; highly self motivated and directed and creative problem solving skills. 5+ years experience in IT project management; strong technical experience with HP Autonomy’s iManage DMS and core Microsoft technologies, including SQL, SMS, SCCM, MSI packaging and deployment, Exchange, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP. Strong communication and analytical skills. Prior relevant experience in a large law firm setting and a record of successful experience as an Applications Engineer with a law firm of similar or greater size or other comparable experience. Understanding of telecommunications infrastructure and operations; security and data center operations including servers, storage systems and backups; remote access/thin client environment; email and messaging systems; document management systems, and database applications operations. Basic understanding of overall computer systems, applications, and business processes of a law firm.
Requires flexibility, composure, ability to prioritize and handle many urgent tasks and requests simultaneously with a high level of competence and accuracy; ability to set examples and remain composed under stressful circumstances; maintain confidentiality. High levels of energy and professional commitment are essential. The Applications Engineer will work with highly educated and motivated people who will challenge his/her capabilities. Well-developed interpersonal skills are mandatory to ensure effective communication.
